Frequently asked questions
How do I back up my data?
Open Settings, scroll to Backup & Restore, and tap Create backup file. Spendwise writes one file containing your categories, transactions, budgets, people, and balances, then lets you send it wherever you like — a cloud drive, your computer, or removable storage.
Your currency choice, reminder settings, and App Lock preference are device settings and are not part of a backup. You will set those again on a new device.
Backup files are not encrypted. Anyone who gets hold of the file can read it, so treat it like a bank statement.
How do I move my data to a new phone?
- On your old phone, create a backup file (Settings → Backup & Restore).
- Save or send that file somewhere you can reach from the new phone.
- Install Spendwise on the new phone and complete the first-run setup.
- Open Settings → Backup & Restore and tap Choose backup file, then pick the file.
Restoring replaces everything currently in the app on that device. Spendwise saves a safety copy of the existing data first.
Does Spendwise sync between my devices?
No. There is no account and no cloud sync, which is what keeps your data private. Each device keeps its own records. To move them, use a backup file as described above.
I've lost my data. Can you recover it?
Unfortunately not. Spendwise never holds a copy of your records — they exist only on your device. If you uninstalled the app, cleared its data, or lost the device without a backup, the records cannot be restored by us.
If you do have a backup file, you can restore it at any time from Settings → Backup & Restore.
What happens to my data if I uninstall the app?
Uninstalling removes the app's local database and all its preferences. There is no cloud copy, so the data is gone permanently. Create a backup file first if you might come back.
Can I undo a transaction I deleted?
Not from inside the app — deletion is permanent in the interface. Spendwise does keep a local safety record of destructive operations, but there is no restore button for it yet.
The reliable protection is a recent backup file. If a deletion mattered, restore your most recent backup.
How do I delete a category or a person?
Categories and people are archived, not deleted. Open the item — Budgets → Category Management for a category, or People for a person — and tap Archive.
Archiving hides it from new entries while keeping your existing history and totals intact. You can restore an archived item at any time, which is why it is safer than deleting.
How do I change my currency?
Go to Settings → App Currency. This changes how every amount is displayed. It does not convert values or apply exchange rates — the numbers you entered stay the same.
Does Spendwise connect to my bank?
No. Spendwise has no connection to any bank, card, or financial institution, and it never asks for banking credentials. Everything is entered by you, by hand or with the recurring-expense suggestions.
How do I turn off the daily reminder?
Open Settings and switch off Daily Track Reminder. The reminder is generated locally on your device; nothing is sent anywhere to schedule it.
How do I turn App Lock on or off?
Open Settings and toggle App Lock. When it is on, Spendwise asks for your fingerprint, face, or device passcode each time it opens. The check is performed by your device's operating system — Spendwise only receives a yes or no, never your biometric data.
How do I stop the app sending crash reports?
Open Settings → Privacy and switch off Share diagnostics. From that point nothing is sent — crash reports, render errors, and performance timings all stop together.
This is separate from your financial data, which never leaves your device either way. Diagnostics are on by default because they are how crashes get found and fixed. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what a report contains.
Which devices are supported?
Spendwise targets Android 10 and above. It is built as a single cross-platform app, and the current public release is the Android version on Google Play.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Email support@spendwise.download. Bug reports are much easier to act on when they include:
- what you did, and what you expected to happen;
- what actually happened, and any message on screen;
- your app version — shown in Settings → About — and your Android version and device model;
- a screenshot, if the problem is visual.
Where can I read about privacy?
The short version: your transactions, budgets, notes, and balances stay on your device, and the only thing that leaves is anonymous crash and performance diagnostics. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
Still need a hand?
Email us with as much detail as you can. We read everything, and we will tell you honestly if something is not possible — for example, recovering data we never had.

Bug reports, questions, and feature requests all go to the same inbox. Replies usually come within a few days.

Two things resolve the majority of messages instantly:
- Data questions — remember that Spendwise keeps no copy of your records, so restoring a backup file is the only way to bring data back.
- Crash or odd behaviour — installing the latest version from Google Play fixes most of these, since each release includes crash fixes.
